Cap D'Agde as an 'outsider'

Decided to write our own review/guide to the Naturist Village as non-residents as all the info we found was either heavily geared to those staying on site or a bit vague and out of date. Hopefully this will come in handy for anyone staying in Cap but off-site and hoping to visit.

1. Not for those on a budget!

Day 1 and we realised this is not a destination for the budget conscious!  There are little tweaks to save a few £ but ultimately you’ll be spending quite a bit once here. Perhaps we should have realised this when we saw the accommodation prices in the local area! You certainly pay the premium of being around all the nakedness and facilities once inside the Village.

2. Getting here (and home)

Bear in mind Beziers airport is tiny. Only a few flights a day seem to arrive and depart. There is one cafe area before you go through security to departures and another small seating area but it wasn’t very busy until close to departure time so easy to sit around.  Also another cafe and seating once through security. Wouldn’t recommend getting there mega early as there is nothing to do apart from sit and eat.

We were very lucky to get a lift from a friend from the airport but on the way back we got an Uber which was €37 with a special deal, €51 standard price. You can probably get a Bolt for a similar price too. Took about 20ish mins although there is one area which gets built up with traffic so can take a little longer.  There was a bus which goes via Agde and takes about an hour but is a lot cheaper. You can also fly to/from Montpellier but that’s further away so involves a bus and train or more expensive taxi.

So with budget considerations in mind, we decided to catch the bus to head tp the Village for the first day. A Bolt taxi was quoting €12-25 (which seemed to change by the minute!) and the bus ended up being €1 each! We got on at the Musee stop and it was about 12 mins to the Village. We had the option of Line 4 or 11 but the 4 regularly just didn’t turn up so advice would be get there for the earlier time, and then just wait for the other one 10 mins later if the first doesn’t turn up, one of them will come. The bus started in Agde so if you’re more in that direction you can also catch it too.  It drops off at the roundabout where the shelter is, but picks up on the opposite side so be sure to head round there as soon as you see it come round the corner (both the 4 and 11).  From there, it's only a couple of minutes walk to the Village, you really can't miss it.

  1. Getting onto resort

The bus dropped off on the roundabout so you just follow the crowds and go along the wooden boardwalk to the office at the end where you pay and get your passes. Charges are per person per day, €11.50 for 1 day but you’re not allowed to go out and in again with that we were told. We opted for the 7 day pass which is €54 each and you are free to come and go as you please.

There was no mention of the Naturist card thing that we had seen about online so don’t worry about that. There are different rates if you bring a car but as we didn't, we can't say what the amounts are.

Once sorted, follow it round the side of the building to the gate where you have to tap your passes to get in. That’s the only place you need them but you will do every time you go in.  There are bag storage lockers just on the first roundabout you get to (at the motorbike hire place), €10 a day per locker I believe.

You absolutely don't have to get naked as soon as you walk through the gate. You can if you want, but if you wear clothes you won't get looked at as if you have 2 heads. There was a huge range of dressedness throughout the day, evenings people tend to do a bit less nakedness and get their sexy outfits / lingerie out, which was very pleasing to the eye!

4.What to do

This is where the money likely comes in! If you are happy to just lay on a towel on the beach with no umbrella etc then there will be no more cost aside from food and drinks. If you want to either hire sunbeds or go into somewhere, then that gets expensive. One of the sunbed places we saw which was part of a bar was €60 for the front ones (doubles) or €50 further inside. The one without a bar attached was all reserved so didn’t seem any point asking costs at that time. To compare, we bought sunbeds on a different beach outside the village one day and they were €28 all day for 2.

Another option to save a little money, assuming you don’t mind just laying on a towel and being a bit sandy is buy a parasol. We saw them around the port area for €18.50, they may have had some in the village shops but we didn’t look for them.

Clubs / Parties

One day we opted for an afternoon at Kama Sutra as there were sunbeds and a pool. Open from 12 until 8, we got there about 1:30 and were enough spaces although still fairly busy. Costs for a couple varied from €40 to €60 depending on which extras you wanted. The €40 option gave you 2 beds and 2 free drinks and the €60 included towels and access to the ‘Harram’ which was the jacuzzi/swinging/sex area. There is no playing in the general pool area so if you’re looking for some action you need to pay the extra. A popular place for those who like single guys we heard. Pool was cold this first time we went but I guess refreshing in the heat! Cocktails were around €12 so fairly standard. Bottles of wine were €30 which was the same as 5 glasses so fair enough if you’re going to drink a bottle. No external food or drinks allowed in but you can take bags though. Have to be naked when around the pool but can be dressed walking to and from the beds, no shoes at all though after the entrance.

We’re not huge SpicyMatch users but had seen they had a special holiday week whilst we were here so decided to see what they had on. Luckily enough there was a ‘Club Extravaganza’ party on one evening so we bought a ticket for that as it was a reasonable price €25-30 (and also saw about Mousse Parties at Le Glamour - more about that later). If you were a VIP Spicy Match member it was free (we weren’t at this point, annoyingly).

The party was held at the Jardin Des Babylones complex, the info on SpicyMatch and also on the ticket was rather vague so didn’t know what to expect really. We ended up wearing usual going out clothes (mainly because we were getting the bus!) but there were all sorts varying from full outfits to pretty much naked so fairly safe to say anything goes.  Drinks were reasonably priced (€10 for a round of a glass of wine and beer) which was a nice bonus.

We got there pretty much as it opened at 7pm and between then and 9ish people were trickling in, after that it was a bit busy to notice if people were still coming in. Again we had no info on what you could or couldn’t do there so were waiting to see what everyone else did. Turns out, same as the outfits, anything goes! Most people were just dancing or chatting but there was play going on so we decided to have a little dabble too (just together). No-one was really in the pool but it was just there for whoever wanted to. We left to get the 11:15 bus and it was still going strong, no idea what time it actually finished!

SpicyMatch had mentioned the Mousse Parties at Le Glamour so we decided to see what they were about too. They start at 2pm and go on until 7, standard entry is €25 a couple, if you get a SpicyMatch VIP wristband you can skip the queue but we didn’t know this until after. If you want to splash the cash, then you can buy a bed (they call them mattresses) which is €50 for a couple but then you also have to buy a very expensive drink such as a bottle of champagne, you can’t book the bed without adding that in too so realistically you’re looking at €130 minimum, most likely more. Maybe if you go with another couple you could pay for one bed/bottle and split the cost to make it more reasonable.

Again no idea what to expect, we’d seen a few reviews online which nearly put us off but decided to go for it anyway with zero expectations. Some of the reviews and online info said it was strictly naked only, but there were a lot of people in sarongs/bikinis/lingerie (that did seem to be the women though - guys were naked or a sarong) so definitely not as strict as we’d been led to believe. As you go in there is a cloakroom, if you have everything in a bag they just take the bag, or if you didn’t (like us) they give you a SpicyMatch bag. It’s €3 for the cloakroom and just goes on a hanger so it does have to be in some kind of bag. You’re allowed to wear shoes, and take in a wallet/bum bag/neck bag type thing to keep your money, card, condoms etc in, but no phones. We’d also been led to believe drinks would be expensive but they weren’t terrible, a coke was €5 and a glass of wine €6 so pretty standard for the resort. The main downside was there was nowhere to sit, unless you were very lucky and got in first to bag a ledge near the pool or middle podium area, you just had to lean at a tall table which takes its toll after a few hours! Seems that making friends with someone with a bed would save that problem but we weren’t that lucky! There were areas in the shade which was handy if you are as pasty as me!

We were there on a Water Party day, the one before had been Cowboys and Indians. I think the foam element is standard on whatever themed day? Again we had no idea about the playing element but about 5 mins after we got there we saw a couple going at it so that answered that question!  Turns out it’s pretty much anything goes again, plenty of action to see and join in with if you’re so inclined. There was a jacuzzi type pool at one side, all the rich/extravagant/well-known people seemed to gather around it on those mattresses. As we were there on the Water Day, there were people with water pistols and about 2 hours in they brought out water balloons and extra pistols/guns so everyone got drenched. The music was similar to the evening party, dance music by a DJ, it got the crowd going but not really my thing so hard to comment on the quality! Was at a volume where you could still chat too.  We didn’t delve into the foam but it was in a separate area and spurted out every few minutes.

Overall was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon around nakedness and naughtiness at a reasonable cost although being about to sit down would have been good.

On another day we went back to Kama Sutra and then for the final day we decided to try Histoire D’O which we had been told was a daytime spa/club. Was €45 entry for couples which included 4 soft drinks and was open from 2pm until 2am. Was a naked/towel dress code so you just leave everything in the lockers. Don’t need cash as there is a wristband system which logs purchases and you pay on the way out. Is a separate entrance for single guys so you can stay just couples very easily, there’s an extra door into the single guys area which we didn’t venture into as it’s not our thing but we could hear that some people were having fun in there ;-)

It was very nicely done out with a few main bed areas plus a dark room and jacuzzi and sauna. The main area is like a large circular bed with mirrored walls, nicely lit and regular cleaners walking around. Overall we spent a very pleasant few hours there, plenty of action to be seen and had.

We met a few couples across the week who had been before and told us about various places on site they liked (and didn’t!) and one of them decided to show us Tantra. This is a club which opens at 11pm and is important to note the dress code. Smart for guys including shirt, trousers and shoes, and sexy for women with heels. I had sparkly flats and was pulled out of the queue but then told I could rent heels inside! Apparently similar has happened with men who have worn shorts and had to rent trousers. But when we got in, nothing else was mentioned so we just paid our entrance (€30 which included 2 drinks or I think €45 for 4 drinks), and dropped our bag off at the cloakroom.

We’d been slightly primed for what it was like but ultimately didn’t know what to expect. Let’s just say it was an experience! The couple we were with took us on a bit of a walk round, starting off with the single guy area which was pretty intense. There were a few small room/cove areas and we saw some couples having fun literally surrounded by single guys from all angles and very close, would definitely be very overwhelming if you weren’t expecting it and just started having a play! Upstairs was like a single guy ‘holding pen’ as they weren’t allowed in the couples only bar and there was someone at the door policing this (bear this in mind if your male partner decides to go to the loo and wants to come back!).

Once inside the couples only bar it was still pretty intense. Lots of people and the main place to sit was a central bed area, which also doubled up as the play area. So really you were sitting chatting and then someone next to you would lay down and start playing. The European way of playing seems to be touch someone’s leg/hand/foot and if you’re not interested you say no, or if you are then make it clear they are ok to progress. This felt a bit weird for us, especially when someone touches your hand when you’re just sitting there! Overall, the place was a lot and rather overwhelming, and we're not exactly new in this life! It was hot, loud, dark and not spacious so rather intense. Not somewhere we’d go again and would probably suit those who like to be immersed in the action straight away with nowhere to get away from it, especially if you are a single guy fan.

Another couple we chatted so told us about Le Glamour in the evening which sounded like much more our thing, but unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to check it out.

There are many many bars to choose from and we only went to a few over the week. The ones along the harbour are good for people watching, with everyone in their evening outfits making their way to the clubs/complex, some had live music too.  Melrose seemed to be the place to be once 10pm kicked in, couples only and cash only so bear that in mind. Lots of music and dancing on the podium areas. Also an outside area which was slightly cooler. We were there on Sat and Mon nights and Sat was much busier. When we walked past again at 2am it was shut so seems to be hard and heavy for a few hours! Also had a drink in Bodega which was pleasant too, met a couple there who were regulars in Cap and apparently it’s somewhere for the slightly older crowd. There was a pool too which apparently is nice during the day.

There any many more clubs both daytime and evening which we didn’t make it to. Staying off site necessitates going back to the room on the bus for a nap or freshen up, so wasn’t really helpful for going on site more than once a day.

We didn’t really make it to the beach as weren’t a huge fan of sand and the rental beds were a bit pricey but we had a little wander and did hear some stories from the couples we met. Seems there are a few different areas, including one where lots of men gather for a ‘solo play’ watching the women and we heard the Bay of Pigs mentioned too. Any actual playing seems to be confined to the dunes rather than on the main beach (like old-school PDI for those who have been!).

5.Overall

It is doable if you stay off site but is a little bit of a faff getting there and back, especially if you want to go more than once a day. However, it was nice to have the option of staying more local for a day or 2, and you still felt you got your money’s worth for the entrance fee.

You can definitely have a better time if money isn’t an issue, all the places to go into involve an entrance fee of at least €25, often quite a bit more. Without those you’re basically limited to the beach with no beds/shade or spending the day in bars/restaurants.

Depending on how you are socially can also affect how you find it staying off site. If you’re comfortable chatting to anyone regardless of language then you can probably make connections to take forward. Or if you like more of a ‘jump right in’ play style then it’s probably great too. Personally we found it fine as an intro to the place with the option of not being around it too, but to fully experience it you’d need to stay on-site and I think preferably with friends or on an organised group trip.

We since realised that the fabulous BedHoppers did a couple of their podcast episodes about their trip here so they would be worth having a listen to as well to get a bit more info (they went as part of a SpicyMatch trip so stayed on-site).

Hopefully that has answered some questions, and given a bit of an idea of what to expect, although nothing can totally prepare you for the barrage of flesh!
